CTP or Compulsory Third Party Insurance varies slightly between states.

Transport Accident Commission Charge, TAC (Victoria, VIC)

Unlike NSW, The TAC runs a ‘no fault’ system in which they’ll pay out no matter who caused the accident. This only includes people injured in Transport Accidents, not damage to the car.

TAC is paid automatically when you renew your Car Registration each year .

CTP or Green Slip Insurance (New South Wales, NSW)

CTP Insurance is there to cover you if your car injures or kills another person whilst you are in control. You are covered if the accident is not your fault & also if another car is involved & they are at fault.

This particular insurance must be paid for before you register the car, a green slip then proves that you have CTP (hence it’s also called Green Slip Insurance).

It’s advisable to check with your insurance company as to whether they provide CTP, however most will.
